Description & Learning objectives

This course has been designed to assist practitioners to gain an awareness of maternal mental health. It will explore the differing types of diagnosis that may affect individuals in this arena. It will explore the signs and symptoms of differing diagnoses and what that means in terms of treatment management as well as exploring the importance of promoting self-care and person-centred approaches.

The learning outcomes for this course are as follows:

  • To gain an overview of maternal mental health
  • To explore perinatal depression and anxiety
  • To consider perinatal OCD
  • To discuss postpartum psychosis
  • To look at postnatal PTSD and birth trauma
  • To recognise the importance of self-care
