Description & Learning objectives

Children and Young People’s welfare is the utmost importance and when in need of help and protection, they deserve nothing less than high quality and effective support and care.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), can have a negative impact on children and young people, affecting both their lives and the ones who care for them.

BDD can be the impact of various contributing causes and risk factors.

The key areas of a child’s or young person’s life, that can be impacted by BDD, includes the child’/young person’s physical health, mental health, development, learning, communication and their relationships, which may present differently from one child/young person to the other.

This training course is designed for any person who supports Looked After Children and Young People, (employed or voluntary), to develop their level 2, awareness and understanding of Body Dysmorphic Disorder .

Early awareness needs identification and intervention, which will then allow key workers and carers, to mitigate the impact of BDD, and so, work towards making positive changes.

  • Develop a foundational understanding of the terminologies and definitions surrounding mental health, in relation to BDD
  • Develop a foundational physiology awareness of ‘Body Dysmorphic Disorder ’ (BDD), it’s key features and diagnostic requirements.
  • Explore and consider how BDD may be the impact of various contributing causes and risk factors.
  • Identify varying types of resilience and positive support factors, to aid the CYP with BDD, in our care.
  • Evaluate your professional caring practices in line with your legal and moral responsibilities and legal frameworks, which underpins supporting and promoting CYP with BDD
